あなたがたの神を拝ませてください
イエズス会十二所日本殉教者修道院の Facebook にこんな話が載っていました。
―あなたがたの神様を拝ませてください―ご公現の日によせて
イエスの誕生を訪ねて遠い国から旅をしてきた３人の博士は、もちろんユダヤ教ではありませんでした。旧約聖書でいうならば、「異教の神」を拝む人々です。昨夏、被災地で聞いた本当の話をわかち合います。
大船渡の津波の被害は、それは大変なものでした。しかし、震災翌日から、続々と日本だけでなく海外からも重装備の救援部隊が駆け付けてきたのだそうです。
カトリック大船渡教会のある信徒は、朝、そんな部隊を運んできた大型バスに遭遇しました。すでに隊員は働きに出かけていて運転手さん一人だったのですが、少し話してわかったことは、彼らにはカップめんがひとりひとつだけしか残っていない、という厳しい食糧事情でした。彼女は急いで自宅に戻ると、あるだけのお米を炊いて、おにぎりを作り、それをバスまで持って行きました。
夕方になって、ひとりの重装備の大男の兵隊さんが大船渡教会を訪れました。
彼は、朝のバスの部隊の隊長さんだったのだそうです。
そして、神父様に今日の差し入れのお礼を言ってから、こう言ったのだそうです。「あなたがたの神様を拝ませてください」
彼は重装備だったため、聖堂の中には入らず（大船渡教会は畳敷きのこじんまりとした聖堂です）、聖堂の入口で手を合わせると、ぶるぶると肩を震わせすすり泣き始めました…
いかつい、大男が、(彼にとっては）異教の神の前で。
…朝から過酷な任務を通して彼が何を見て、なにを感じたのか、知る由はありません。
彼はしばらく祈ってから、帰っていきました。その部隊は、台湾から来た人たちのようだった、ということでした。
これはすぐに英文に訳されました。
“Please let me worship your God”– In remembrance of Epiphany
The three magi who traveled from the East to witness the birth of Jesus were surely not Jews. In the terms of the Old Testament, they were the people who worshipped pagan gods.
Let me share with you the true story that I heard when I visited the tsunami stricken area last summer.The damage caused by the tsunami in Ofunato was beyond description. However, starting from the day after the disaster, heavily-equipped relief forces kept coming in to the area, not only from within Japan, but also from overseas.
One morning, a member of Ofunato Catholic Church ran into a bus which was carrying a relief force. The troop had gone to work, and
only the driver was there. As she talked with the driver, she found out that their food supply was running out: they had only one cup
of instant noodles for all of them to share. So she hurried back home, and cooked all the rice she had, prepared rice balls, and
brought them back to the bus.Later that day, a soldier visited Ofunato Catholic Church. He was the captain of the troop she met that morning.
He thanked the priest for the food, and then he said,“Please let me worship your God.”
Because he was donning heavy equipment, he did not go into the sanctuary (Ofunato church was a small church with tatami-mat floor). He
just stood at the entrance. As he put his hands together, he started sobbing, his shoulders trembling.
A big, stern man, sobbing in front of the pagan god (for him)….
Who would know what this soldier might have seen and felt, as he worked hard all day in such a terrible disaster stricken area.
He prayed for a while, and left.
I heard that the troop was probably from Taiwan.

１月８日は教会では、３人の博士たちがベトレヘムで誕生したイエスをたずねたことを記念する「ご公現」の日です。教会ではこの日にクリスマスの飾りを片付けます。
「ご公現」というのはこういうことだったのでしょうね。
